11.1.3. Naming convention for connection points and insertion lines

The naming convention will be illustrated using a profile as an example:

3 connection points at the beginning and end, 8 insertion lines at the channels

Start and end of profile

One connection point is required in the center of the profile cross-section and one in each hole. Compare Fig. „3 connection points at the beginning and end, 8 insertion lines at the channels“.

The connection point in the center of the profile cross-section is called start, the others are enumerated with start_a, start_b etc.

Exactly the same applies to the end of the profile.

  • start_b <---> end_b

  • start <---> end

  • start_a <---> end_a

The following illustration shows an example of the naming convention for the side insertion lines. Their base sketch is on the start level of the profile.

The scheme is side_<Nummer><Buchstabe>.

Nummer is a number like a dice, where the addition of two opposite numbers always results in 7.

Buchstabe is empty for the middle position and if there are several channels, the connection points are enumerated: "a", "b", ..

The opposite connection point has the same letter:

side_2a <-> side_5a

side_2b <-> side_5b

Orientation of the connection points:

  • The insertion line symbol always points to the center.

The red coordinate axis of the lateral connection points always points to the right if you look lengthwise across the profile from the start of the profile and the surface with the connection points is at the top.

Example of a complex naming convention with many connection points and insertion lines and different proportions

The start/end connection points/insertion lines are now a letter combination of top/side or bottom/side:

start_<letter_top>_<letter_sideways>

  • side_5 is always in the middle of the profile.

    side_5a is always 1/4 of the profile.

    side_5aa is always 1/8 of the profile.

  • If special divisions are required, letters such as k, l, m, n can also be used.
