PARTsolutions faciliates data security and retrievability of standard and supplier parts at Baumann

Amberg specialist for assembly and automation systems is implementing CADENAS strategic parts management

Baumann Automation Co., Ltd. is considered one of the most important global partners for automated assembly technology. Customers worldwide rely on more than 1500 Baumann robot systems for their production needs. Baumann develops and produces turnkey automation systems for customers in various international industries such as automotive, electronics, domestic appliances, telecommunications, medical technology, photovoltaic and solar. The company uses about 40 000 different supplier parts and about 2000 standard parts for its products.

As of May 2014, Baumann will be using CADENAS strategic parts management PARTsolutions to ensure the quality of imported data and for better control of the used catalog parts. At Baumann, PARTsolutions will especially be used in the mechanical engineering and development department. Altogether about 50 working stations will be equipped with PARTsolutions/professional. The implementation of the system is expected to be completed by the middle of the year.

Manage all parts professionally with little effort

Prior to the implementation of PARTsolutions, the designers imported supplier parts from all kinds of sources into the data management. The management was carried out with Autodesk Productstream Professional.
Matthias Ströhl, head of materials management and organisation at Baumann, explained the requirements resulting from that: "Basically the main aim is to improve the retrievability of existing data significantly with the extended search features of CADENAS strategic parts management PARTsolutions. Especially the new creation of supplier parts master data and the automated transfer of description and order numbers should be facilitated and optimized qualitatively.„

Functionality and integrability are decisive

The company from Oberpfalz decided to cooperate with CADENAS because of the possibility to integrate the system directly into Autodesk Inventor and connecting the system to the existing PDM system Autodesk Productstream Professional. The capacity to integrate self-designed parts and make them retrievable via the geometric similarity search GEOsearch was also of great importance.

The implementation has currently just started, but already now it is possible to get an idea of the very promising possibilties PARTsolutions is offering to Baumann:

"The available supplier parts catalog and the manageability of the standard and supplier parts library convinced us. We think that especially the geometric similarity search offers us a great potential of using existing and supplier parts in a better way", says Ströhl.
