QualityBIM: New industry platform for BIM data
Expansion of Open BIM
The development of the joint BIM platform of ARGE Neue Medien and BDH (Federal Association of the German Heating Industry) is making great progress. At the end of September, project participants and service providers met in Paderborn to celebrate the website going live, discuss the current state of development and define further goals.
The new platform, called “QualityBIM”, offers quality-assured and standardized BIM data for the sanitary, heating and air conditioning industry, from planning to construction and operation to dismantling. QualityBIM is actively committed to the expansion of Open BIM and promotes the further development and data exchange of common standards such as VDI 3805, EN ISO 16757, ETIM MC and IFC. The focus is on the standardization of formats, the definition of test rules and processes in order to always offer high-quality and consistent data.
The platform enables participating manufacturers to provide their product data efficiently and with quality assurance for BIM applications. Planners and architects benefit from centralized access to high-quality, standardized BIM objects and the ability to efficiently export data in more than 30 CAD formats free of charge. By bundling the activities of both associations, synergies are created that benefit everyone involved.
CADENAS as official technology partner
CADENAS will play an important role in the development and implementation of the new platform as the official digitization partner of QualityBIM. The Augsburg-based software company is contributing its extensive expertise: At 3Dfindit.com, the company provides CAD, CAE and BIM-capable 3D models from various manufacturers for free download. In addition, CADENAS is already the operator of the existing ARGE Neue Medien BIM portal, where products from ARGE members can be viewed, researched and configured in real time in various display formats.
Project manager Wolfgang Brenner (CPS Consulting) and project spokesman Peter Leipold (Kermi Raumklima) were very satisfied with the progress made so far. “With the current status, we can address planners and architects as users of the system and make them interesting offers. At the same time, we can show manufacturers how we can present them and ourselves,” says Wolfgang Brenner.
“Future-proof platform”
Karsten Spieß, Head of Data Management MEP/BIM at CADENAS, is looking forward to the collaboration: “It is inspiring and satisfying to see how QualityBIM is taking shape as a ‘digital solution for tomorrow’ and going live. Thank you to everyone involved in the project for making it happen.”
Sarah Schlenke, Program Manager Lead2Order (ARGE Neue Medien), is also enthusiastic about the development: “What we have created together in recent months is fascinating. The combination of the technologies of both service providers and the efficient collaboration of everyone involved has created a sustainable and future-proof platform that offers great added value to the entire BIM environment. I am already looking forward to the further development and that we will make a contribution to the future of digital construction with this platform.”
