Engineering Newcomer 2024: Win with your design!

The Engineering Newcomer Competition enters its 11th round! In cooperation with our lead partner norelem as well as the Federal Working Group of Technical Colleges and MDESIGN , we cordially invite pupils and students to participate in the 2024 edition. The Engineering Newcomer Competition offers young talents the opportunity to present their innovative projects to a broad audience and a jury of experts and to win attractive prizes.

Once again, prizes with a total value of 7,500 euros and a presentation of the winners at the Motek trade fair in Stuttgart are up for grabs. The closing date for entries is July 31, 2024.

Pupils and students from universities, technical colleges and universities of applied sciences can take part. Applications can be submitted as an individual or in a team.

Engineering Newcomer goes international! Projects can once again be submitted in English. Interested schools simply forward the information on the challenge to their foreign partner schools.

We are looking for project or final theses from the fields of engineering and development. The work should demonstrate an innovative idea, technological benefits and market opportunities. The use of standard parts and cost efficiency also play an important role. Extra points are also awarded for the use of standard components.

The entries are then assessed by a jury of experts based on the following criteria

• Innovation/creativity
• Utility value, technological benefit, market opportunities
• Use of standard parts/purchased parts, cost considerations, variability
• Additional points for the use of norelem parts (free download here)
• Function and handling
• Technological implementation
• Presentation and use of social media for presentation
• Upload as STEP file

You can apply online on the norelem website. Photos, screenshots or videos of the project must be submitted together with a detailed description of the task, the components used, the challenges and the result. The deadline for entries is July 31, 2024.

• 1st place: 2,000 € for the participant and their educational institution
• 2nd place: 1,000 €
• 3rd place: 500 €
