BIM World Munich 2024: Focus on the digital transformation of the construction industry

BIM World Munich 2024 has once again established itself as the central meeting place for digitalization in the construction, real estate and facility management industry. With over 8,000 participants, 250 exhibitors and an extensive program with 250 speakers, the trade fair on 26 and 27 November offered an ideal platform for the exchange of ideas on forward-looking topics such as sustainability, infrastructure planning and digital efficiency enhancement.

CADENAS GmbH was also represented among the more than 250 international exhibitors on both days. As a member of the VDMA and buildingSMART, among others, CADENAS presented itself together with its partner Ausschreiben.de. Visitors received information on tender texts as well as 2D and 3D BIM data in one place.

The key to a sustainable construction industry

The requirements and expectations of BIM (Building Information Modeling) were the focus of the discussions. Gregor Müller, Managing Director of BIMsystems, emphasized: “I am convinced that BIM is needed to implement sustainability.” He added that clients are increasingly demanding BIM data, which underlines the growing importance of this technology.

Gunther Wölfle, Managing Director of buildingSMART Germany, emphasized the role of BIM for the next steps in digitalization: “What interests me most professionally is, of course, the major topic of AI for the construction industry. With the topic of BIM, model-based planning, we have a very good basis for being able to accompany the next steps of digitalization very well.” Wölfle also emphasized the importance of product data and therefore companies such as CADENAS: “Product data is the prerequisite for the consistency of processes from planning to operation.”

QualityBIM: New perspectives for the industry

The presentation of QualityBIM was a highlight of the trade fair for those involved in the project. The platform was developed and recently published by ARGE Neue Medien and BDH in collaboration with CADENAS. Wolfgang Nagl, Vice President Sales at CADENAS, explained: “QualityBIM is not simply intended to be a new platform, but to take up and connect the existing threads. This should make it easier for manufacturers to publish their data.”

Sarah Schlenke, Program Manager Lead2Ordner at ARGE Neue Medien and responsible for QualityBIM, underlined the importance of this cooperation: “CADENAS is a huge added value for us. Without CADENAS, this platform would not exist, because CADENAS naturally provides enormous input with its core expertise and know-how in CAD and BIM.”

CADENAS and 3Dfindit: At the center of digital transformation

CADENAS presented its visual search engine 3Dfindit at BIM World, which met with great interest from specialist planners. The platform makes it possible to quickly find manufacturer-independent components and integrate them directly into plans, which significantly simplifies workflows and increases planning quality.

Frank Jansen, Managing Director of the VDI Society for Construction and Building Technology, emphasized the importance of CADENAS for the industry: “Companies like CADENAS are very valuable for the overall process, because without product data, BIM would just be an empty shell.”
Peter Leipold, Head of Department at Kermi GmbH, confirmed the many years of successful cooperation: “We started modeling our BIM data with CADENAS years ago and we are very satisfied with the results and the expertise we find at CADENAS.”

Conclusion and outlook

BIM World Munich 2024 impressively demonstrated that the digital transformation in the construction industry is in full swing. CADENAS and 3Dfindit are positioning themselves as key players that offer added value to manufacturers and planners alike.
Wolfgang Nagl from CADENAS summarized the success of the trade fair: “Manufacturers are realizing that they need to do something. We are very satisfied with the two days, there were many very specific inquiries.” This positive response underlines the growing importance of digital solutions in the construction industry and CADENAS' leading role in this transformation process.
Another highlight is the anticipation of the CADENAS Industry Forum 2025, which is already in the focus of many manufacturers and planners. Tickets for this event, which will offer exciting insights into the future of digitalization next year, have recently become available and are already attracting great interest.
